Bad news

on the way to the vet

Mika had his second x-rays this afternoon and the result wasn't what we wanted to hear at all!

It seems his femoral head wasn't completely removed during the surgery or somehow a little part of it is still touching the acetabulum. This causes the discomfort and pain and that's the reason why Mika refused to put the foot down all the time.

I did wonder whether anything wrong happened during the first surgery when the vet told us the results in the late evening. I don't know much about FHO (Femoral Head Removal) and  have no idea whether it's a very complicated and tricky surgery or not.

Oh, I'm so lost now!!!

The vet that we visit has been in his practice for more than 10 years and he is reputable in this neighbourhood. He showed his concern when he saw Mika refused to use his injured leg and offered the second x-rays immediately. He didn't charge us today and he also won't be charging us for the surgery. However, money isn't the issue here. We feel so sorry that Mika boy has to go through another surgery again within a very short period of time. Life isn't very fair to him lately!!!

Mika is scheduled to have his blood counts on Thursday and surgery on Saturday.

We pray that he can have a full recovery after this and no more surgery in his life again.

Oh no! What a frustrating and confusing situation. I'm glad Mika's getting that second surgery, and at no cost to you, but I feel what you mean...just too much for Mika.

Our paws are crossed for a successful surgery and quick recovery.

Oh, no! I'm so sorry to hear the first surgery didn't go 100% as planned. Even though money is less of a concern than putting Mika through all of it again, that's a HUGE help that you won't have to pay for it too. I hope this one is the last procedure he'll need, and that he'll come through as easily as he did the first time!

Very, very sorry to hear that Mika is going to have to have surgery again but thank goodness you don't have to pay again (I realize money is not the issue but still) and Mika did so well the first time and is so much stronger now with all the swimming etc. that he will be ok and recover more quickly this time. you have to believe that. And after this, no more problems!!!!

I'm very sorry that Mika has to go through this, but his vet sounds like a caring person and you are giving him such good care. It probably doesn't seem like it right now, but Mika is in such a better place than so many other doggies, even with his troubles. If you're there to see him through it, he'll be OK, I'm sure. We will, of course, be crossing our paws for the best recovery possible for him in any case.

lotsa licks, Lola

Poor Mika. So sorry he must go through all this again. On the other hand, I feared the worst when I read the title, and was kind of relieved that it was "only" that.
I'm sure that he will recover quickly once this nasty bone is fully removed and he can use his leg again.

Poor Mika! I'm sorry you all have to go through another surgery. I know how sad I was when I found out Maizey had to have her other patella operated on. The rehab on the first one was hardly done, when the other one went bad. It is hard when you are worrying about them. I hope it goes ok, keep us updated.

Hello Mika!

Please be ok, a little more patience and you be on your way to recovery. Hang in there, Buddy! This is your "twin" Fudgie here. When I was a pup, I had a bad fall and Piappies Mom was so worried. Though I did not have to go through surgery, she constantly stay by my side and gave me some sort of a therapy for a few weeks. It was tough. I can just imagine, you are going through more in your situation.

We are here with you and our whole pack have our paws crossed.

Positive thoughts for you, Mika!

Priscilla,
More days of worry for you. I'm so sorry to hear this news. I'm thankful the vet was able to figure out what was wrong with Mika, and that the surgery will be performed soon.

Look at all these people(and dogs!) who are praying for Mika's fast recovery! He has a fan club!

Take care.

Priscilla and Mika -- We are also sorry to hear about the news of another surgery and will keep you in our prayers for a speedy recovery.

Just a note from experience, this FHO surgery is what I have had on my right hip and with the rehab, massages, stretches and time -- I am fully recovered jumping, running and being a pup. You wouldn't even have a clue, I am a new improved HAPPY pup. So, hang in there good things are on the way. -- Brutus

Maybe though this time after just one more surgery he will be fully back to himself.

Oh that is too bad that Mika has to go through another surgery. (Thank you for including the diagram.) It sounds to me like the vet is reputable and it wasn't due to negligence. Rather, there are no guarantees in surgery and medicine. It is nice to think, however, that after recovery from this one, poor Mika will be able to walk comfortably again. Keep us posted.

Ugh. That is frustrating! What a trooper Mika is though- wow. We'll be thinking of you guys. That's rough!

Awww poor Mika! At least the Vet as acknowledged the problem and not charging you. Hopefully this time all will be well and Mika can get back to full recoverer! Positive healing thoughts coming your way :)

Oh, I hope he goes through the surgery alright. He is ADORABLE. Oh by the way, please note on Mika's page that he lived through being hit by the car. When i saw that i thought he was dead.

Vets are people and cannot always do everything right the first time. It sounds like your vet is very understanding and is doing his best. We will keep you in our thoughts that the second surgery goes OK. That is very difficult news to hear.

That is very frustrating but what can you do.
Glad that the Vet is not charging you for the mistake/mishap. Poor Mika, thank goodness he is a tough little trooper and I bet he will bounce back even better this time. Well wishes to you all.

OH MY GOSH, I CAN NOT BELIEVE THAT! I wonder how that could have happened, but I would have thought that it would be simple enough to know if the femoral head was removed or not. Poor sweet heart no wonder his recovery was not going like it should. I was wondering when it sounded like you were doing all the right things why things were not progressing a little more easily, guess that explains it. i am so sorry he has to go through that surgery again, wish there was something Icould do to help you both. I wll be praying for you and hope this goes without problems and finally fixes the problem.(((((hugs ))))) to you both...

Oh no... sending Mika all the well wishes in the world and for a successful surgery and speedy recovery.

We got some bad news about Billy recently concerning both his front legs. I have not wanted to post anything on the blog about it yet 'cause I don't know how bad it really is ... this week has not been fun, I can tell you that much... we're in limbo. We have an appointment with an orthopedic on Tuesday... so we'll know more after that... :/

Anyhow, we will be thinking of Mika and sending him lots of well wishes this weekend...

FHO is not a complicated surgery at all. But a very painful surgery as they have to remove part of the bone..

Nonetheless, I really wish mika the best and we really pray he is all healed and running in no time !

He is a brave boy so im sure he will get through this !
