We've been doing our homemade hydrotherapy for Mika and Eva since we bought the water tank.
For Mika, he has one more thing he hates in life...
He doesn't like grass, never likes to play in the garden or even stays a bit longer on the grass. Reason is unknown.
When his skin was attacked by yeast problem, two medical shampooing which lasts for 1 1/2 hours really puts him off.
The swim is added in his blacklist now : (
Our little Eva?
She's having fun since day one!!!

Oh how cute!!! Poor, precious Mika but it sure is excellent exercise for him. It will do him good!
Eva sure seems to enjoy herself. :)
Lots of stinkin' kisses from 2 crazy boyz in Sweden
Priscilla! Eva has made herself her own water treadmill. That is wonderful. It is going to help strengthen her legs so much. I'm so glad she likes it.
Mika is more like Oreo was with his water treatment. Some dogs just don't like the water.
Oh you are too cute. :)
Mika: you don't like grass or water??? Hmmm.... what happened there? I love both!
Eva: You are so cute, I love how you make room for yourself and swim in circles. :)
Is this your water tank? We have three, yet all have closed tops except for a rain-water pipe in the very top. :9(
Cuddles and licks,
Love Miley xxx
Aww..poor Mika, if only he knew it was the best thing for him.
Eva is a very talented swimmer:)
I'm with Mika - I don't like the water either. But I hope somehow he comes to understand that is helps him to feel better!
Oh, she looks so cute paddling around in there! I'm sorry that Mika isn't enjoying it, though. It's much the best thing for him, but I get it about not liking water. Poor baby.
lotsa licks, Lola
Eva looks like she is having lots of fun. Ok the worry wart in me is going to ask a question. Can Eva get to the tank if she she on her own in the yard? Could she jump in and then not be able to get out and become overly tired? Just worried. Diana
Awww poor Mika, poor, dear baby...that is ok that Mika doesn't like certain things...we love him!
Eva certainly was enjoying herself! I wonder if I could borrow that pool for my kidney stones? lol
Poor Mika :( If only you could make him understand why he has to do it.
Eva is doing great though :)
Kisses,
Emma Rose
Very good exercise for both Eva and Mika...keep it up. Brutus has always loved the water -- swimming in our pool and during rehab appointments in the swim tank w/under water treadmill. Now, Tytus we had to convince him that swimming was fun. You may want to try this with Mika, we bought Tytus a life jacket to wear. Which gave him the confidence he wasn't going to sink, he probably used it for a month or two. Now he does 'SUPER DOG' jumps into the swimming pool (any body of water to be truthful) without the jacket.
Mika...Brutus here. I know what you are going through with the recovery after surgery, for I have had several surgeries myself, both hips and elbows. My therapy included swimming, stretches and acu-massages which helped me recovery fully -- I can even do agility. So, keep up the great work it will pay off in the end.
Eva's definitely having more fun than Mika! I'm with Mika though, I don't like the water, but I'm sure he knows it will help him in recovery. Hope it gets better!!
What an awesome idea! I always say I will get Maizey a kids pool, but it's not deep enough to really swim in. This is great!
She did so much swimming to recover from her patella surgeries. She was so young and little that I would just fill up the tub and lure her to swim with cheerio's. They float so I could throw some in and she would chase them around. We even put her dunking her head under for them on cue-I call it "Dive!" LOL
Hope Mika keeps getting better. Don't you wish you could reason with them sometimes? Just sit down and have long talk with him on the benefits of swimming.:))
Never expect Mika doesn't like water. I thought all dogs like water.
Eva really enjoys herself! So cute.♥
The swimming is fantastic, but I was going to tell you one of the biggest things to getting Cherry to walk again was gently stretching her back leg into extension, stretched out to the back, as those muscles stretched that made it so she could walk. Make sure it is okd to do stretches with Mika with the vet, and if they can show you how that would be terrific, but if not let me know and I could try to do a private video to show you how I do it???? They HATE IT, and it hurts a bit but the only thing the rehab vet told me about swimming a lot is that that exercise involves them bringing their legs forward and can build those muscles up a lot but a lot of dogs with the FHO need a lot of extension because the muscles have shortened. Anyway, hope that makes sense. You can ask your vet about it, but the extensions and stretching really helped Cherry after her FHO a lot, not sure how long they have to wait after surgery though..... Good luck, GREAT WORK! Mika is a lucky dog to have such great care!!!!
I'm sorry that Mika's not enjoying it, but at least Eva's having fun!
Bunny
Awww poor Mika he will know that it is only to help him recover. Watching eva I just sat and :)
Not sure if you're able to get one, but I find a dog life jacket tends to help a lot. Sometimes dogs who have a weak limb can't keep themselves level enough to feel comfortable in the water right away and a life jacket helps balance them out. Also, the life jackets have a handle on top so you can hold them with one hand and give them delicious treats with the other.
I found that with a life jacket I could take dogs in a circle around the tank with some delicious treats and eventually they would like it to the point we could play "chase" without me even holding them.
awww, i sure hope mika will get used to the water and not hate it so much. poor guy. :(
miss eva is givin' me the giggles, though. she is just swimmin' in circles and havin' a total blast! so cutesies!
*woof*
