She's Eva, not Lassie

Whenever I take Eva out, people are always attracted by her beautiful coat and look
(I know I'm boastful,  please bear with me)  : )

Some of them will just approach me and say,' It's so beautiful. IS IT LASSIE?'

My reply, ' She's EVA, not Lassie.'

A brief explanation follows : She's a Shetland Sheepdog, not a Collie ...
a detailed one comes if they still can't differentiate a Shetie from a Collie

Is it really confusing???

A Sheltie? A Collie?

I know what you mean Priscilla. I have so many people asking me if my shelties are Lassie especially Saturn. Some even asked me if they are: miniature Lassie? Oh dear! I hate it when people keeps referring our beautiful shelties as "miniature Lassie". I have to "lecture" them by telling these people that they are Shetland Sheepdogs or Shelties!

Eva is so pretty and she looks so much like her mummy Hana!

Uggghhh...I get this all the time too; I usually tell people that unlike collies, my shelties are more apt to pushing Timmy IN the well, rather han rescuing him! Im thinking about getting this shirt:

We probably all get that. LOL. But the other day a young girl ran up to us and said with lots of enthusiasm, "are those border collies? Ive always wanted to see border collies" LOL But she didnt seem to disappointed when I told her they were shelties. Diana

I go through the same thing with my Dakota. It really doesn't bother me though because as a child I was obsessed with Lassie lol.
People don't seem to realize that Collies/Shelties are not one and the same. They also attribute the same personality traits to both and that couldn't be further from the truth.

Oh, I know how you feel! Collies & Shelties are nothing alike (personality wise)!

But, when I tell people I have a sheltie, and they look confused, I always say, "Like a miniature Lassie." Then they nod their heads.

A lady that we train with has a Sheltie (named Autumn) and she actually had a shirt made that says, "She is NOT a Miniature Collie, she is a SHELTIE!"

I know what you mean though - probably 99% of people say, "Oh, a husky!" when they see Layla. I don't have the energy to correct people all the time anymore lol.

I grew up with Shelties and one of ours was named Sable. She looked almost identical to Eva and we often got the same questions. Still, Eva does have movie star good looks, so I'm not surprised that people want to meet her!

Eva is such a pretty dog that I don't blame them for thinking it's Lassie... after this I bet they can differentiate between a collie and a sheltie.

I must admit, I just learned that Collies and Shelties are not related at all. I didn't know that.

Of course they think Eva is a movie star - she is so furry, furry pretty! :-)

Pretty big difference I think. I mean, there are similarities I suppose in color and such. BUT...any dog person would know :)

Every time I take Louis out people say "look it's that dog on the Caeser dog food commercial". And I think "I wish Louis was a star and making $$". But that's okay, we love him just being Louis :)

That;s ok, we get the wolves comment all of the time. Anyone who has ever seen a wolf knows that there is a significant difference between a wolf and a Siberian, but some resemblance in markings is all it takes.

Well, Lassie was a wonderful dog although not a she. Just what are they implying???
I am frequently asked if I'm a Collie as well...a Border Collie. So many people out there are just uninformed.

That's what you get when you have a beautiful puppy like Eva!

i guess it can be rather entertaining at the same time frustrating to have to explain all the time..

I suggest you bring a picture of Lassie the next time for comparison ..

We get that too. People passing by will smile at Wall-e and say "a mini Lassie" or "a mini collie." Some people even say "a mini sheltie." Um...? I didn't know there was such a thing!

Blog Mom thought that Shelties were mini-collies the first time she saw one, many, many years ago. She learned, of course. Hey, it's not so bad. Most people that I meet can't remember the name of my breed so they say, "Look! It's one of those wrinkly dogs!". Doesn't sound so great, but it also ends up involving petting, attention and admiration so it's all good.
