A doggy day out

Today we went to an event hosted by our local shelter.
The highlight of the day was a doggy play pen outside where the dogs could go off-leash and socialise with the supervision of two trainers.

First the big dogs had their time in pen. 

The huskies all knew each other very well.

Then the small dogs got their turn. Unfortunately, there was no one of Eva's size.

They were either smaller

But then, look who we met!

Eva wasn't too pleased with Hero sniffing her.

But then, she had to survive with this all the time.

We tried to get Hero and Eva to have a picture together, but as you can see, it wasn't very successful :)

It was a good day out, and after having lunch with Hero's humans, we came back with a very tired sheltie girl. Although Eva is still wary of other dogs, I think that her boarding time has helped her get over a lot of her fear of others.

Today, we went to visit a lady who does boarding for dogs and also fosters unwanted dogs, because we are planning on leaving Eva with her when my husband and I visit Tasmania next year. It was just the right timing when some of Rosie's husky friends were going to have a gathering there so we decided to pop in and take a look at the surroundings.

Just as we arrived, Eva had obviously sensed something because she refused to get out of the car and into the house. (She never does this!) So with a little shoving from us, she entered and was greeted by a group of huskies, all bigger than her, may I add! They were friendly, but obviously this strange object required them to 'gang up' on her!

I think Eva was terrified of all the huskies. She didn't like it when one of the pups wanted to play with her, and went to her submissive pose many times. 

She then got dumped into the pool and swam a few rounds, showing everyone how elegant she was!

There are no words to describe how unhappy this girl was. But if you imagine that our greedy little girl refused to eat any yummy treats, you can pretty much understand it.

She was ok with the smaller dogs, though, which is good. For boarding, the large and small dogs are kept separated, so it means that she should be fine.

We also met a gorgeous foster rottie there. She is beautiful and absolutely loves the water. Everytime you throw a toy in the pool, she will jump in and get it. She has a wonderful temperament too! Her name is Rottie.

Eva is sleeping soundly now, four legs in the air.
After all, home is always the safest place to be.

I'm back from the beach!

We are back from the beach!

We took Eva on our second visit back to the beach which is a good 3.5 hour drive away.
She wasn't as adventurous in the water as she was the first time. It seems like the princess doesn't like getting her feetsies wet!!! Everytime a wave came near, she was always quick enough to avoid it.

Never trust the humans who say 'It's okay'. The sea is SCARY!

Eva also made some new friends who arrived on the same day as we did. They are a beautiful black and tan GSD girl like our blogger buddy, Anna, and a sweet golden retriever. They were so gentle to Eva who had loads of fun teasing them and getting them to chase her.

Clever Eva knows that the big dogs can't get inside the inner circle. She makes them chase her by going in and out of the circles, round and round.

Although it rained quite a bit while we were there, we were still lucky to be able to catch some moments when it stopped raining to go to the beach and take photos as the sun came out.

My new friend (and he's a sheltie too!)

I made a new friend today. His name is Pico and he belongs to a nice photographer friend of my hoomans.

He was not at all shy to be at my house and made his way around sniffing and exploring all the rooms. Of course, I was there to guide him around the place like a good hostess!

Unfortunately, he didn't really like playing with me and every time I tried to get him to play, he would occasionally growl at me or walk away. But I never gave up!

Guess nobody likes me jumping on them, eh?

Oops. He gave me 'the frown'.

And then somehow, I think he started liking me!

I guess we are friends now!!

On a sadder note...
My sweet sister Rosie will be going back to the UK to study. I won't be seeing her for 3 months!!

My fun-tastic weekend!

How was everybody's weekend?
Mine was the best ever!!! I got to meet our neighbour's new puppy, Ashley.
She is a 3 month old golden retriever, and she's the sweetest puppy ever (well, the humans thought so anyway!).

Ok, I have to admit she's pretty cute, but not as cute as me!!!

Ashley also has a grandma (Lizzie) who is three years younger than my grandma Laura.
Lizzie was super excited to see me and when I entered the house, I was greeted with lots of sniffs.

At first, we played tag with each other. It was a lot of fun, but most of the time, it was the two golden retrievers against me!

I eventually told them I had had enough!

Ashley got a little tired too so she proceeded to find a spot near the pots and have a rest.

As I was having my rest, grandma Lizzie came over and asked me to play with her.

I agreed, and we had so much fun!!!
How I wish my grandma Laura had played with me like that!

Dogathon 2010

We took Eva to Dogathon today, a huge dog event where all dog lovers and their dogs gather together to socialize, take pictures, play games, watch obedience demos, etc.
Eva was so excited to see so many other doggies big and small.
Many months ago, when we took her out for the first time to meet doggies in her first obedience class, she was very shy and timid and didn't sniff other dogs. She would run behind us and hide. After many outings, she has become more confident and today, I can say that she sniffed many many butts! I think she now feels more comfortable around people and other dogs and less scared which is good.

Unfortunately, we didn't take many pictures, but we met all the people we wanted to see.

Guess who this is?
None other that the famous Hero the Sharpei, one of our first blogging buddies!
Hero is such a sweet and gentle sharpei and it was great to see him and his hoomans too! Hero was very gentle to our little princess and they kept going round in circles sniffing each other!!

Then we met up with Kiki, a beautiful copper and white husky.

We also saw Joey, Eva's obedience buddy whom she hadn't seen in a few months! You can't imagine Eva's happiness when she saw her long lost friend! She kept wanting to play with her and ran around in circles!!

Joey!!! I missed you!

Rosie also found a beautiful rottie girl called Happy to pet and hug.

She was a real sweetie just like our Laura.
