Today, we went to visit a lady who does boarding for dogs and also fosters unwanted dogs, because we are planning on leaving Eva with her when my husband and I visit Tasmania next year. It was just the right timing when some of Rosie's husky friends were going to have a gathering there so we decided to pop in and take a look at the surroundings.

Just as we arrived, Eva had obviously sensed something because she refused to get out of the car and into the house. (She never does this!) So with a little shoving from us, she entered and was greeted by a group of huskies, all bigger than her, may I add! They were friendly, but obviously this strange object required them to 'gang up' on her!

I think Eva was terrified of all the huskies. She didn't like it when one of the pups wanted to play with her, and went to her submissive pose many times. 

She then got dumped into the pool and swam a few rounds, showing everyone how elegant she was!

There are no words to describe how unhappy this girl was. But if you imagine that our greedy little girl refused to eat any yummy treats, you can pretty much understand it.

She was ok with the smaller dogs, though, which is good. For boarding, the large and small dogs are kept separated, so it means that she should be fine.

We also met a gorgeous foster rottie there. She is beautiful and absolutely loves the water. Everytime you throw a toy in the pool, she will jump in and get it. She has a wonderful temperament too! Her name is Rottie.

Eva is sleeping soundly now, four legs in the air.
After all, home is always the safest place to be.

Miss Eva goes swimming

Greetings everybody!

It was a hot and sunny day today and my Uncle Mika had just gone for his swim. I was getting a little jealous because the humans never seem to notice me! I want to swim too but they always tell me that my fur takes way too long to dry! Who cares?

Well, today, with my cute looks, I finally got them to let me swim! Woohoo!

I just love it when I can gracefully swim around and watch the world go by!

Oh don't look! This is embarrassing!

 Unfortunately, due to being a dog and not being able to type on the computer as such, I couldn't stop my humans from uploading a video of me swimming. Actually, to tell you the truth, the part of me swimming isn't exactly interesting but they just wanted you to see me do something really funny (or at least they think it is!)
Just keep a look out from around 30 seconds in the video. They want you to watch me do this funny shake.
Try not to laugh....

Oh, and don't worry about me when I look like I'm trying to get out of the tank. I'm not really. Just trying to stand. Unfortunately, the humans made the tank a bit fuller than they used to so the buoyancy kept me from standing.

Float Coat saves the day!

After much advice on getting a float coat for the dogs, we finally found one online!

And it's true. It really helps the dogs by making them more stable in the water, and they still move their legs, which is good.

With Mika, I finally can give my arms a rest. They have been hurting, along with my back, because I had to hold Mika up in the water everyday. 

Now, with the float coat, I can just use a leash! 

Mika's leg has improved tremendously after the daily swim. Even in the water, you can see it kicking and extending more than it was previously.

Whenever Mika has his swims, Eva is insanely jealous. Wherever she is in the house, she always knows when Mika is swimming and she'll bark non-stop!

We only let her swim on weekends because sheltie fur takes much longer to dry up!!

We took Eva to a doggy gathering today at a restaurant. They had a swimming pool that was specially open for the dogs today. We didn't really expect to take Eva swimming, but somehow we did.

She's a natural born swimmer!! She was swimming the moment she hit the water - at first clumsy like an elephant, but then graceful like a ... sheltie?

I wouldn't say she enjoyed the water because she would always try to get out, but she finally accepted it and swam around with Rosie.
It was good water therapy for her hind legs anyway.

An update on Mika:
His surgery was successful. The vet called us last night to say that he was bleeding a bit more than usual, but still under the tolerance level. He is half bald now but when we went to visit him this morning, he was his usual happy self. Hopefully, if everything goes well, he'll be home tomorrow!
