Genting Weekend

We took Eva up to Genting Highlands this weekend to have a breath of fresh and cool air :) 

You could call this weekend a "training challenge". 

We have been trying to get her to sit everytime a call or motorcycle passed by and give her a treat everytime she sit-stayed. However, it seems like she's not so interested in food when something is more interesting, and she's not so interested in toys either. So what exactly will keep her attention from the interesting objects? 

Sometimes she doesn't do much about them, but other times, she can go crazy!
We've been thinking of getting her a harness so that the pulling doesn't damage her throat, but I heard that harnesses let them pull even more.

Does anybody use a Gentle Leader Harness and comments on it?

Eva was a little social butterfly too. Rosie's little cousins came to see her, and as you know, kids who don't own dogs behave differently from kids who do :) So yesterday, Eva learnt not to shy away from sudden actions and behave herself, not to jump on others, etc. 

Today, we took her up to the mountains (a 4km walk up and another 4km walk down) to go to a little waterfall and this time, meet up with middle-aged, old people :)

When meeting an old 7 year old girl, Eva went up to her boldly and made the first move, sniffing. However, the little dog was not so social and so shyed away. Lucky for her, Eva learnt from her Grandma Laura that disturbing oldies is never a good thing to do, so she didn't keep sniffing her but kept her distance.

While walking, I noticed Eva's cute little ears and just had to take a video!

I'm sure many of you sheltie owners will see this everyday, but it's just too cute!

Up the mountain

We brought Eva up to Genting Highlands again last weekend for her to get some fresh cool air instead of the hot humid air down here.
This time we went up a small mountain that wasn't too steep with Eva.

We enjoyed a beautiful walk in the morning dew and Eva had the chance of experiencing something she's never done before. We also got to practise our obedience like stays, heel and recall.

Now for something off-topic. 

We had our 7th OB class today but Eva's trainer was 45minutes late, so by that time she was tired and not concentrated...I also realised you haven't seen Eva doing OB yet, so I uploaded a video for you. 

She's a very distracted girl, however, so we will have to work on that. 

Exciting news!

With our old camera broken, we had to get a new one immediately, or else we'd miss taking pictures of Eva. We managed to get a better one that could take faster speed pictures for our constantly moving pup, and also great HD videos!

Happy to have Rosie home, we took our little pup up to Genting Highlands again for a night.
We did some walking there, and also enjoyed the cool air.

Tonight, we took Eva to the Japanese restaurant. The only thing they asked was that she doesn't bark, which luckily she didn't! 

Everyone who walked past had to get a second look at our little girl sitting there on the chair. 

When the food came, she was a bit excited, but she soon got used to us eating, people walking around and the strange noises. 

Our little pup is real tired now...can you guess why?

Genting Highlands

Guess where Eva was this weekend?

.... Yep, you guessed right! Genting Highlands, a hilly area situated about 1 hour from our house. The air is cool and the wind is strong, perfect for a little sheltie pup trapped in the humid hot air of Malaysia.

Guess what Eva did?

There are so many things to say, I don't know where to start!
Well, we took her for many many walks around the apartment, the carpark, by the road, up some hills, and you know what? Our little pup did *AWESOME*!

This trip was a huge milestone for Eva. She started being really socialized around people and cars.
At home, when we walked past them, she would stop and stare or occasionally try to run up and jump. This isn't exactly the behavior you want in a dog, right, especially if you're by the road?
So for the first few times when people walked past her, we got her to sit from far and just watch until they left.
Then slowly, she got used to them. We also got my niece and nephew to come play with her so that she could be socialized with kids too. She did very well, only trying to jump once, the rest of the time, sitting patiently while they screamed and jumped around like monkeys.
We also took Eva on the pavement by the road to watch the cars go by, with her just sitting all the time.
She hasn't completely gotten used to cars yet, but at least we can see an huge leap of improvement since yesterday.

Another thing Eva learnt today was how to climb stairs.
You may ask, "Eva doesn't know how to climb stairs????"
Unfortunately, not. In fact, she's scared of them.
So how did she overcome her fear and lack of confidence?
At first we'd carry her up and down the stairs, but once we put her front two paws on the first step, she slowly managed to climb up the whole flight, receiving a ton of praises from us.

She also went in ELEVATORS! To get up to our flat on the 6th floor, we'd need to go into the elevator. She had no problems there :))

I think overall, Eva learnt that sitting is the answer to most things...things that she wants, usually, or how to be calm and well mannered among people, instead of jumping on them.

What a weekend!
