The dogs went to the park today, they all had a great time there.
Laura lazed around in the shade, Mika and Rosie went running, and Eva practised her recall, sit + down!
This is the video of Eva's training. Usually she can down properly on the grass, but because she was too excited, she didn't really sit properly at first, so her legs went haywire when she downs. Also because they're very weak and she still doesn't know how to control them and tuck them in. We do help her push her legs in to down properly, but we couldn't in the video. Any suggestions to help with this, or any experiences with this puppy problem? It would be helpful. We also try to stop her from lying down with froglegs whenever we see her and correct her.
Here are some pictures for you to enjoy.
One very happy rottie
Ecstatic puppy! (No, I did not force her to smile :D)
Eva and Mika
We tried getting Eva into that tunnel. She was scared at first, but she went in there a few times after that!
You know, the princess has completely changed her look again. These puppies really do change overnight!
Last but not least, happy Rosie, and happy Laura!

Eva is doing really well - it's tough to do sits/downs/recalls in a new place with all the distracting sights and sounds! Her froggy legs are cute - but sorry, we don't know how to get her to stop that. Hopefully someone will comment on what to do.
Glad you all had such a good time - everybody looks so happy in the photos!
New adventures....keep up the training! She is adorable!
Looks like a wonderful day in the park. Oreo would frog leg when he laid down as a puppy too, eventually he outgrew it.
I would ask your vet, but there are many exercises you can do to stregthen her hind legs.
What a great recall for such a young pup!
I see you are using treats, but are you using clicker training w/ positive reinforcement? As long as your sure there are no conformation problems w/ her hips a good way to get the exact position you want is capture it w/ a click and treat in that position. Or use the down she has as a basis for shaping a more correct positon.
Sorry as this is obviously the beta version of how to do that, but if you were to use capturing or shaping w/ a clicker you wouldn't have to "push her legs in to down properly" which I would imagine is not really telling her enough information about the down position you want. Hop over to my blog and link up to Sue Ailsby's training levels site or the yahoo group for tons more great info on this.
It looks like you guys are doing a great job w/ tour pups, these are just a few ideas of what has been successful for me!:)
Oh and that pic w/ you and laura is adorable!!
What a wonderful trip to the park for everyone... especially Eva being her first outing, she must have been very excited... she is really good on obedience training thingy.
Licks, hero
Oh what a great day at the park!!! Eva is doing REALLY WELL with her recalls. Always have treats on you. I laugh because I have to clean our my pants pockets every time before I throw them in the wash. LOL! Looks like Laura and Mika were smiling away too. Keep reinforcing her with treats and good girl and lots of love. Looks like you are doing a FANTASTIC job. She obviously has a lot of Hana in her. As for the Frog legs, I would do some google research on that. Especially since she is a pure breed. My new puppy does it too, but it makes us laugh, and he is a mix, so we don't worry too much. I know he'll grow out of it.
Great Post
Much Love, Woof!! Josie and her mom.
P.S. thanks for the kind words on Remington's post. You are so sweet. I feel the same about you too!!
Priscilla, if I wanted your email address, could I please have it? Or do you belong to face book?
Let me know...
Josie
Wow do they grow fast! But I'm the last one you should ask about training. :)
What a great post! I love the pictures and the video is so fun. I especially like the last picture of Rosie and Laura. Precious!
Kisses,
Emma Rose
Wow! Eva's obedience is going very well! What a little smarty she is. Cute pictures of Rosie and Laura! ♥
WOW doing great! No surprise though! She's a smartie!
Maybe you could try puppy pushups? Just have her stand, then down, then stand, then down... over and over. If she's downing from a straight stand, maybe her legs will stay under her in a down. And like others have said, you could shape the legs in, too. That's a strange problem... with her legs. Hopefully she will grow out if it too!
Great photos! Love the happy smiles!
I have to practice my sits and downs too....I can be pretty sloppy and lean a lot...but the pinch collar puts me back on track. Works good for corrections for me. Best wishes!!!
Hugs and snaggle-tooth kisses,
Sierra Rose
I love seeing everyone look so happy! Is it bad for dogs to lay with frog legs? My dad's dog does it all the time, and I didn't know it could be bad for them...but he is 12 now and hasn't had problems!
I think Eva looks great. I remember our trainer in puppy school always reminded us that we were working with really young dogs and training would come with time. I think it's more about building trust and having fun while they're pee-wees. (Of course, training can be fun too!)
The pictures are just fantastic! Everyone looks so happy. :-)
We always teach the puppies to "down" from a stand. What I'm noticing in the video is that she is stretching forward as she downs from the sit and so naturally her back legs stretch out behind her. If she is standing you can place your hand with the treat on the ground between the front legs and push backwards. That should keep the back legs under her nicely.
You look like you're having a great time training in the video. Keep up the good work!
I guess I should clarify that when I said "push backwards" I meant move the treat hand slightly backwards, not push the dog. LOL Usually the puppies will lower their head and start to bow and as you move the treat back, the rear end folds down nice and straight.
Anyway, I don't know if any of that makes sense. LOL It's so hard to write out something that is so clear in my head. :-)
Glad to hear that the suggestion helped! Always nice when it's something simple. :-)
